Are you in a relationship with a Danish resident?

If you are in a stable, committed relationship with a Danish resident, you may be eligible for a residence permit in Denmark.

To qualify, you and your partner must meet several requirements, including:

  • Proof of relationship: You will need to provide evidence of your relationship, such as joint tenancy agreements, shared bank accounts, or joint travel documents.
  • Sufficient income: Your partner must be able to financially support you and any dependents.
  • Accommodation: You must have suitable accommodation in Denmark.

To be considered in a permanent cohabiting relationship, you and your partner must have lived together at the same address for at least 18 months.

Exceptions to the 18-month rule:

In certain cases, the 18-month requirement may be waived. For more information, you can always reach out to us at Globe Advokater and we will try and guide you the best we can.

Financial Responsibility:

Your partner in Denmark needs to be able to financially support you if necessary. This means they must be able to cover your living expenses, such as rent and food.

Voluntary relationship:

To be eligible for a residence permit based on a relationship with a Danish citizen or resident, your relationship must be genuine and not solely for the purpose of obtaining a residence permit.

Key Factors Considered by the Danish Immigration Service:

  • Voluntariness: Your relationship should be freely chosen and not forced or coerced.
  • Authenticity: Your relationship should be based on genuine feelings and intentions.
  • Stability: You and your partner should demonstrate a stable and committed relationship.

You need to be at least 24 years old

According to the 24 year requirement both parties in the relationship has to be above the age of 24 to qualify.

You need to have visited Denmark once

This is another requirement to be aware of.

At current, the processing time is 7 months according to the Danish Immigration Service.

If your application for family reunification is successful, you will initially receive a temporary residence permit that is usually valid for two years. After this period, you can apply to extend your stay, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria.

At the same time, the permit allows you to take up work in Denmark.

  • Assessing your eligibility: We will evaluate your specific situation to determine if you meet the requirements for family reunification.
  • Preparing and submitting your application: We will help you gather all necessary documents and ensure your application is complete and accurate.
  • Representing you: We can represent you before the Danish Immigration Service and address any issues or concerns.
  • Providing ongoing support: We will keep you informed throughout the process and address any questions or concerns you may have.

By choosing Globe Advokater, you can rest assured that your family reunification application is in experienced hands.
